Battle is the default phase of maps in all modes of Gigantic. There is nothing special about this phase, but note that the Clash bonuses from heroes level 5 talents will not be in effect. Practice Mode stays in Battle phase by default.
The configuration of a map during Battle phase is also referred to by players as Pre-Clash.
